Macbook Pro - Serato delay

Hi,

I'm running Serato DJ Pro (version 2.1) on my new MacBook Pro (MacOS Mojave 10.14.2). Full computer specs listed at the bottom. The issue I’m encountering did not happen on my previous Mac and also only happens when I’m running Serato through CDJ’s using my SL3 box. When I run Serato directly through a controller, I do not encounter this issue.

The issue has happened at 2 different clubs with CDJ’s and usually starts happening an hour into my set. The visuals of Serato suddenly stop matching what I’m hearing in my headphones. Visually, the first beat of the song is actually a few milliseconds out from what I’m hearing in my headphones.

SERATO'S RESPONSE:

The latency issue you're experiencing is the result of a work-around within macOS/OS X, that prevents USB audio & MIDI from failing.

In very simplistic terms, the load (audio + MIDI data) being placed on the USB port is exceeding what it can handle, so to prevent the audible stream from crashing completely, the OS is resetting the audio (and therefore introducing a significant delay) on the USB port to ease the load.

Theres no way to fully prevent this from occurring unfortunately, as this is a being caused by macOS/OS X - and is somewhat out of our control.

This issue affects all audio software (and not just Serato software), and we have reproduced this in house with Traktor, Logic Pro X, Garageband and even iTunes. Serato has invested considerable time and resources into developing a work-around for this issue, but due to the low-level nature of the issue, we are very much at the mercy of Apple.
