Dual iOS profiles - can apps or folders be access restricted for child (ie school) / parent (ie. home) use?

My child needs an iPad for school. They require 5 apps.

The kids are not allowed access to other apps / games while at school.

I still want to be able use the iPad for myself at weekends for games, Netflix, Facebook etc.

Is there a way to “lock down" or password protect access to certain apps or folders on mass so that my daughter only has access to a folder with her allowed apps etc while at school, but I can change the profile or unlock when I need to use it?

It’s seems a bit of a waste of modern tech to give her a 128gb iPad (which is what I had), only to use it with 5 basic apps and everything else deleted.

Thanks

iPad, 12

An app can only be password locked if the developer of that app built in that optional function. Otherwise, there is no universal way to password lock any app. And iOS has no means to password lock a folder. iOS itself simply is not designed for multiple independent users - it’s a single user operating system, so your ability to securely restrict or limit access and use are limited.

If the school installs thise 5 apps via a school or school district managed deployment, you’ll be unlikely to even be able to install anything else.

Hi larrens,

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities. I understand you have a question about restricting content on an iPad.

Does the iPad have a profile installed by the school? This might change the options that are available, but generally speaking, Content & Privacy Restrictions sound similar to what you're looking for. You can use those to limit access to specific apps, and you can schedule time limits/downtime, or manually turn it off as needed. Check out the link here for the details: Use parental controls on your child's iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch.

I hope I've answered your question.

Cheers.
