Why do lightning cables break so easily?

I wonder how Apple can make such a fragile cable.

It doesn't seem that they do.

If your someone who has trouble with cables, disassemble a retractable ball point pen. Take the spring and wrap it around the cable near where it enters the connector at the lightning end. It's a bit fidgety to wrap the spring. However, it will prevent you from kinking the cable and breaking the wires.

I too have never had one fail nor break. And i have a dozen or so since I keep ones in my car, in my briefcase, at my office, plugged into several outlets in my home so I can charge devices in the bedroom, living room, den, etc without having to move a power supply around.

Seems to me as long as you take care of them, they last many, many years of regular use.
