How do I use a Bluetooth headset while making phone calls with the AW4? For example, when out for a run and I don’t have my iPhone with me. Can’t beleive something so basic is either not possible or so difficult to figure out. Seriously.

I'm not certain. but I think that you can with the AirPods. I have no clue how you'd keep them in your ears while running. (They fell out of my ears while being a couch potato so I got my money back.)
Thanks for the suggestion Phan. I haven’t seen/read anything yet that makes believe AirPods would add this functionality. If they do, I’ll go buy another pair and add some grip tape. Also returned mine for the same reason... they fall out too easily.
I found an "old' bluetooth headset that I haven't used in quite a while. Paired it up to my watch... yes it works!
Now that I know non-Apple headsets do indeed work, I'll be looking for a "new" headset. One that is more comfortable for me than the Airpods.

Do your headset allow you access to Siri? Can you activate Siri on your watch and use commands through your headset?
If you can just do what I do with my Airpods and ask Siri to call.
Oh, btw, I have my headset paired and can listen to music and hear the dial tones. That’s where the functionality ends.

I don't know for fact that any will do the job for you but check out the Bose line. I've been very pleased with their products.
