H&R Bock Software Initialization Failed
I cannot get the H&R Block tax software to install on my laptop. I’ve never seen an initialization error in all my Mac days. Does anyone know what’s going on? Thanks.

Thanks for the post in Apple Support Communities. I see you might be running into an issue with an app on your Mac.
The error message you posted looks like it might be specific to the app. Is the error appearing during the installation, or after? If it's during the installation, at what point does it appear?
Are you currently logged in to an administrator account? You can check by clicking Apple menu () > System Preferences > Users & Groups. Then, check on the left-hand side to see if you're using an administrator account or a different type: macOS Sierra: User pane of Users & Groups System Preferences. If you're not logged in to an administrator account, try logging in to one and try again to see if this clears things up.
If you click Apple menu () > Restart and try again, does that help?
Which macOS version are you using under Apple menu () > About This Mac?
Do you know if you have any security software running on your Mac?

I just tried the same thing (create a folder called 2018) in the Shared folder and everything worked. Wow. thank you. No waiting 1 hour on the phone.
BamaNana, I'm having the same issue and don't have time today to wait the 30 minutes they said it would be before reaching the front of the line. Where do go to change the sharing permissions for "everyone" from read only to read and write?
For me I had to go to Finder: /Users/Shared/H&R Block
create a folder called 2018
and then open Info on that folder and set this folder for everyone read&write.

Thank you so much Joseph. I followed each of your steps and was still getting the initialization error. In desperation, I held on the phone for 1 hour and almost 50 minutes for H&R Block software support. They immediately knew what was causing the issue and told me how to correct it. (It’s a darn shame they don’t just post it on their website, which I also searched.) In the end, I had to change sharing permissions for “everyone” from read only to read & write. I hope this post helps someone else.
Finder/applications/right-click H&R Block app/get info/scroll to bottom/unlock if necessary/change everyone to read & write
