iCloud as online storage

so I have a new shiny MacBook Air and something I hadn't considered when moving form windows was the amount of files I had (only bought a 128Gb model) so now I am forced to carry a 1tb portable HDD and 4-5 USB thumb drives and 6-8 SD cards. (I buy storage devices as I need more storage and get what ever is on sale) needless to say this is tiresome and then I have to label them so I know what's on each drive or card in the even that I need a file on them. however I use iCloud to backup important files to the cloud. which brings me to my question can I use my iCloud as a "Cold Storage" for files that I may or may not need later and not use up room on my MacBook
