why is Adobe flash player part of my mac system preferences menu?

This happens with both Windows and Mac. When you install Adobe Flash player, it automatically becomes part of your system preferences, being a plugin and all. Personally, I think it is more convenient that it's there instead of it's own separate program.

Normal occurrence though.
