Any Video Playback stops suddenly on my MacBook Pro /Mojave

This happens rather often. I play a video on youtube, and if I wanna skip forward, the screen frame jumps to that position and shows a still, but the video won't start to play again.

Now the funny/strange thing: Also videos on Facebook or Instagram will not play any more from that moment on. No videos in iTunes. Not even local mp4 files I have on my hard drive.

There is no more moving image possible at all, no video will react to the playback button. I can skip to stills but no moving image.

It cannot be related to internet, as it occurs on local files, too. It can hardly be related to flash, as AFAIK flash is not used for playback of mp4/quicktime locally.

The only solution thus far is a restart of my mac. I have tried flashing PRam but to no avail. This starts to annoy me as it is a restart every other day now!

This has been occuring since I went to Mojave (10.14.2), but has really become super often recently.

Thanks for contacting Apple Support Communities for help today. It sounds like you are having trouble playing all videos after skipping forward whether they are online or stored locally.

You mentioned macOS 10.14.2, but there is a newer update. If you haven't installed it, that would be the first step: How to update the software on your Mac.

Have you tested the issue in Safe Mode? If it occurs in Safe Mode that could indicate a third-party app is interfering with playback: Use safe mode to isolate issues with your Mac.

Another isolation step would be to test the issue in a new user account. This would let you know if it is only occurring in your user or system-wide: How to test an issue in another user account on your Mac.

Thank you, these approaches might help. Though it will be a bit difficult to debug the situation, as it occurs after a few hours intense usage of the computer, which might not be feasible with a new user or in safe mode. But I'll try.

Oh and MacOS is on the latest update, that was the first thing I checked when I had the issue come up.
