iPhone 6s Ringer/Silent Switch Not Working

When the switch is in the "Silent" position, it functions properly, but when I flip the switch up to turn the ringer on it causes the ringer to go on and off silent mode at random. I cannot get the switch to behave normally meaning flipping it back and forth from silent to ring does not actually change the ringer, no pop up on my screen indicating "ringer silent".
