How to delete apps from Launchpad? (OS Mojave)

I'm trying to shrink Launchpad down to just what I use, but some of the apps I don't want to remove from the computer, just from Launchpad. When I select and hold the app, until they all jiggle, only a couple of them have the X in the upper left corner to delete them. Can I not get them off Launchpad without uninstalling them?

How can I delete apps from my launchpad? I have recently upgraded to Catalina and several of my apps no longer work with the new OS. It was easy to delete the non-working apps from Finder...but a few still remain on my Launchpad. How can I delete these?

Can I not get them off Launchpad without uninstalling them?

That's correct. FWIW, That's what clicking the "x" does if it had one.
