2018 iPad Pro 11’ - Tempered Glass Screen Protector

I had an Invisible Shield Tempered Glass + screen protector installed on my iPad Pro today. It has the cutout for the camera but since I installed it and after resetting the FaceID per the instructions in the packaging, it continues to say “Camera Covered” when trying to unlock the screen. I was able to use FaceTime and take photos but cannot use FaceID. I am also noticing the screen touch sensitivity seems to be effected with my finger as well as the Apple Pencil 2. Is anyone else having this issue. I tried chatting with Apple and they were absolutely no help.

The 2018 iPad Pro models, with FaceID, have multiple separate components that comprise the FaceID sensor system. These include an IR dot-projector and IR-camera - both of which are entirely separate from the front-side optical camera.

At present, most (if not all) of the available glass screen protectors appear to cover one or more of the IR elements, resulting in failure of the FaceID system.

An entirely different issue is also known to affect the 2018 iPad Pro models that seriously affects touch screen sensitivity.

At present, the only known workaround solution for both of these issues affecting the 2018 iPad Pro is to remove the screen protector.

Whilst only being able to confirm that you are only one of many who have experienced issues associated with use of a glass screen protector on your new iPad, I hope this has been of some help to you.
