iPad Pro - Face recognition camera covered - but it is not!

Hi, I regular get a ‘camera covered’ message. It is not covered.

Sometimes the iPad then unlocks, at other times it doesn’t and I need to enter the pin.

I cannot help but think this is an erroneous error for ‘face not recognised’, but I cannot substantiate this.

Cannot find a resolution, any ideas appreciated.

Regards

iPad Pro, iOS 13

Are you using any kind of screen protector on your iPad? There are multiple elements to the sensor array - including the actual camera - covering any one of these elements can cause difficulties with face recognition.

The fix, if you have a screen protector, is to remove it.

If you are not using any screen protector at all - and if a forced restart of your device does not resolve the issue -then you should contact Apple directly for assistance. Either take your iPad to the Genius Bar at your local Apple Store, or contact Apple using the Contact Support link at top-right of this page.
