iCloud Drive Not Freeing Space When Deleting Files

Hi,

I used to back my Desktop and Documents folders to iCloud Drive. When my storage ran out, I've deleted several GBs of data. This didn't change anything and iCloud Drive still showed the previous storage used, preventing further backups to both Mac and iPhone.

I've tried the following:

  1. Deleting all of the files on Documents and Desktop.
  2. Disabling iCloud Drive on my Mac.
  3. Disabling iCloud Drive on my iPhone (no other devices are attached to my iCloud account).
  4. Deleting both Documents and Desktop folders from the web version of iCloud Drive.
  5. Removing all "Recently Deleted" files from from the web version of iCloud Drive.
  6. Checking the "Restore Files" option in the web version of iCloud. No files available to restore.
  7. Waiting a couple of weeks for the steps above to have any impact on available space.

iCloud's "Manage Storage" feature still indicates "The documents stored in the top level of your iCloud Drive folder take up 18GB".

Any help will be appreciated.

Best,

Almog.

You are welcome. Other people have posted similar problems and after contacting iCloud support, found it was a server problem. iCloud support reset everything. You may have to politely ask for a level 2 person.
