Activation lock when phone is dead?

I have two iPhones, one of them there is only WiFi service and my daughter uses it. It died last night. However I got an email from activation lock requesting email and password. I had company earlier and I am trying to figure out if I misplaced the phone, or if there was a theft. Which is why I’m concerned about the email that I received an hour ago.

I've never seen that kind of message from Apple. I still believe it's a scam. To my knowledge activation lock, if enabled, could have sent you an alert or Error message, not an e-mail.

Where is that iphone nw? Is it still turned off?

Regards

Giulio

I’ve gotten emails from find my iPhone quite often when using the app, and I get the emails in real time. But I can’t find my phone, I got the email requesting the information, and I did have company in the area where I believe phone was last so I am trying to troubleshoot and see if there are any clues as to if it was stolen.
