Remove trusted Device - How to do this and still keep iPhone in "Pending Erase" state?

Hi.

My iPhone got stolen last weekend and I first put it in Lost Mode but realized that it was no way I would get it back so I put it in "Erase mode". However, the phone went offline just after I put the phone in Lost Mode, so the Erase is pending.

Will that lost phone ever be able to get verification codes from two-factor auth? The device is still present on my appleID (appleID.apple.com), as well as on iCloud find my iPhone. I have tried to find out how to delete a trusted device without removing the "Erase Mode" from find my iPhone, and guides tell me I can remove trusted devices from a list from AppleID.apple.com but I don't find such a list. I only find "Devices".

  1. I can not find any other list than the "Device" list from AppleID.apple.com. Is this list the "Trusted Device list" that is referred to in Apple Documentation? The only "Trusted list" I find is the "Trusted Phone Numbers".
  2. Should I remove the device from appleid.apple.com and if I do; Will the Erase Mode still be on from "Find my iPhone"? If that is the case, I should definately remove the Device from appleID.apple.com.

Thankful for responses!

If they are on this list, they are trusted devices.

Apple ID device list -Check to see where you‘re signed in

Leave it on your device list.

  1. Erase your device. To prevent anyone else from accessing the data on your missing device, you can erase it remotely. When you erase your device, all of your information (including credit, debit, or prepaid cards for Apple Pay) is deleted from the device, and you won't be able to find it using Find My iPhone. After you erase a device, you can't track it. If you remove the device from your account after you erase it, Activation Lock will be turned off. This allows another person to turn on and use your device.

Hi Eric and thank you for your reply.

So if I understand you correctly, unless I remove the device from appleID.apple.com it will remain a trusted device. But if I do, I will allow the thief to reset it using factory reset and then use / sell the phone?

The erase request is still pending from find my iPhone. If I remove trusted device now prior to an eventual reset, will it be removed from find my iPhone and remove activation lock?

How do do remove it from trusted devices but still KEEP the activation lock on (present in iCloud)? That is what I want to achieve and documentation doesn’t state this as far as I’ve found.

Also, if I log out iCloud on the stolen device by changing appleID password, will that remove the erase request / activation lock?

You are welcome. My understanding is you need to leave the device on your trusted device list even after erasing it. If you remove it from your list, the activation lock will be turned off. You can't remove it from the list and have the activation lock on. You can't log out of iCloud on the stolen device because you need direct access to do that.

My understanding is you need to leave things the way they are.
