Scrambled Calls on iphone

I am having terrible problems recently with calls from my iphone getting scrambled and then sounding like I am underwater! I had an iphone 6 and thought it was that, so got a brand new iphone XS at Christmas, but the problem remains - even worse than ever, which is really annoying. My network provider is Sky who have sent me a new SIM card and also say that it isn't a network problem. The new SIM is worse if anything. I really don't want to do a factory reset unless I absolutely have to.

Has anyone else experienced this and if so, how did you fix it please?

Since this happened on two phones, I would suggest restoring it as new without reloading a backup. Test the phone to see if the problem continues. If it does, then you may need to do more troubleshooting with your carrier. If the problem does not continue, then it may be something in the backup that was corrupted so you would need to reload your data individually to see what happens.

Yes, do a backup to save your data, then do a restore as new so that you have a phone just like it came from the store. Then try phone calls to see how it sounds. If you still have problems, then there is an issue with the carrier network. If there are no problems, then reload the backup and see what happens with phone calls.

It should. If you have a ‘rogue’ app, before you completely reload a backup, I would reload purchased apps one at a time and see if it affects the call quality. If you get problems after loading an app, then that could be the cause.

Hi, thanks for that. Do you mean doing a Factory Reset? I am a bit of a technophobe where these things are concerned, so a 'Fools Guide' would be very helpful thanks :-) . I don't want to lose things on my phone, but wouldn't a factory reset and then reloading the same stuff just reload the glitch? Sorry to be so dumb!!
