How can I get my phone repaired/replaced immediately?

My iPhone has the "Cellular Update Failed" problem that so many other people have. This is caused by Apple, how do I get a new phone today?

A bit late to do anything today isn't it? You can make a genius bar appointment at your nearest Apple Store for tomorrow and if yours is one of the devices affected you can get it replaced. iPhone 7 Repair Program for "No Service" Issues - Apple Support

Before going if you have not done so update your iPhone to iOS 12.1.3 and see if it solves the problem. If not make the appointment.

Instead of arguing with deggie about this, your best bet is to do what he recommended from the start. Set up an appointment at your nearest Apple Store or AASP. When you make the appointment, you can find out if they will or can supply you with a loaner phone until your repaired phone is returned.

The link that deggie provided lays out exactly what will happen, but as far as additional arrangements for getting a phone to use in the meantime is something that you will have to work out with Apple.

We are just users here like you. But you are going to have to be a bit pro-active if you want to take advantage of the free repair that is being offered. Apple has clearly outlined what devices are affected, and have taken full responsibility for repairing affected devices at no charge. Clearly, they do not have the facilities to repair this issue in a store, so the device is sent to a repair center for work. That takes a bit of time.

So, you can contact your local Apple Store to find out whether they will be able to meet your needs (via a loaner - they aren't going to hand you a new phone, they are going to repair the issue with your existing phone). If they cannot meet your needs, or if you are not satisfied with the offer they have extended, then you can use your insurance to get a new device. That is entirely your call.

FYI - here is the link to the loaner phone agreement just so you have some insight into what is entailed if they do have a loaner phone they can provide for you: iPhone Loan Agreement

This is what the link says "

Apple has determined that a small percentage

of iPhone 7 devices may show "No Service" in the status bar (even if

cellular coverage is available), due to a component that has failed on

the main logic board.

These affected units were manufactured

between September 2016 and February 2018 and sold in China, Hong Kong,

Japan, Macao, and the U.S. See below for iPhone 7 model numbers that are

covered in this program.

If your device exhibits the symptom

described above, Apple will repair your device, free of charge. Your

iPhone will be examined prior to any service to verify that it is

eligible for this program. This program only applies to iPhone 7. "

It says REPAIR, not replace.

Apple does not do REPAIR. Apple only replaces then sends your iPhone back either to be recycled or refurbished. They will repair screens (they actually replace the screen) but that is about it. They do not send it back and have someone desolder the baseband chip and then put a new one on and send it back. That is not cost effective for them. Instead they keep service replacement units on hand at the stores. They have done this since the days of the iPhone 3G.

Where did I say the Apple would send it back for repair and then return it to you? I said you make the appointment, they check your iPhone and see if it matches the list of phones affected and if it is then they give you a service replacement unit. Did you read the link at all that I provided you where Apple says they knew that they had a batch of phones that have this issue?

That article covers phones all over the world, in some countries this is the case. In the US they will replace it. I'm tired of telling you this. And the longer you put off making your Genius Bar appointment the longer it will take you to go in and get it replaced. And if they don't have a service replacement unit in stock they do have loaner units.

Given your alias are you just trolling?

Since you are convinced do not make a genius bar appointment at all. You will not get it replaced by Apple tomorrow since you won't be going. And since you read that and talked to Apple why did you ask this question at all? Again, just to rant?

So to answer your question, the only way you will be able to get your iPhone replaced tomorrow will apparently be to use your insurance and pay the deductible. And, when you talked with customer service did you ask them about loaner phones at the Apple Store? Which two people have mentioned to you? So even if they did send it in you could walk out with a working iPhone.

This doesn't necessarily help me. I need a new phone. I can't really wait for Apple to send it in and repair it and send it back, especially if I can get a new one shipped to me in less than 24 hous from my insurance plan. I'd rather keep my $150 if Apple will just hand me a new iPhone if I walk into the Apple store with this one tomorrow, but how do I guarantee that this will happen? Apple screwed the pooch on this one, but doesn't seem to want to fess up to that and just give me a new iPhone.

They might not do repair, but when I talk to customer service at apple.com, they tell me that it will be sent in to be REPAIRED. The link you sent says it will be REPAIRED. Nowhere does it say "we'll give you a new iPhone if you have this problem". Everything I see says "we'll REPAIR it". I'm not saying you're wrong, but you sent me a link that you claimed indicated a replacement would be given, and it explicitly says "In all cases, your iPhone will be sent to an Apple Repair Center for service". If they are replacing them, why do their CS reps and website say it's not the case?

Am I frustrated? Yes.

Is your smartass answer helpful? Not so much.

Should their website and representatives tell me the truth? Yes.

I haven't been replacing broken iPhones since the 3G, I mostly just get a new one when my cellular plan gives me a deal, and try not to break the one I have.

Also, the link you sent doesn't indicate a replacement iPhone, just that I should qualify for the repair service. Again, not super helpful if I need to wait a week for Apple to figure it out. Again, like pretty much everyone else, I rely on my phone excessively and Apple dropped the ball here and to make it right, they need to hand me a new iPhone when I walk into the Apple store tomorrow, no questions asked. That's how a company that has confidence in it's products and values it's customers behaves. Not by saying "we'll fix the product you paid us $700 for, that we paid some kid in China $0.78 to make. It will take a few days, but we'll get around to it."
