MacBook Pro RAM upgrade to 8GB

I purchased a Macbook Pro November 2009 2.8GHz Core 2 Duo 256 SSD at the time I opted for the 4GB RAM (8GB was available as an upgrade) Since purchase I have installed Aperture & also have a camera which shoots full HD video.
I am considering buying 2x4GB RAM (matched pair) to avoid any issues with Aperture and movies. I would appreciate advice if I would see performance in speed & stability as I feel Aperture can use more RAM.
I wasn't sure if I had to get this done at Apple but from reading posts I presume my warranty isn't affected if I purchased my RAM and followed the details for the installation.

My MacBook runs very well although with Aperture & short movie file processing I feel more RAM is needed.
Thank you if anyone can advise.

iMac 24" Core 2 3.06 GHz 4GB RAM MacBook Pro 2.8 256 SSD, Mac OS X (10.6.4), iPhone 4 32GB
