iPhone XR Smart Battery Case Getting Hot

My iPhone XR smart battery case is getting hot when it is in use or even idle. The case also does the same when it is charging. The phone does not do this when out of the case or in another case but both the case and the phone are physically “hot” to the touch when using the smart battery case
