I love everything about my new iPhone XR. But.. when viewing smaller images (i.e. google image thumbnails) they are so out of focus. You can see in my images, the first picture is the google search, the second image is a nice clear image, once selected. Is there a resolution to this (pun inteded)?

Google search will bring up a lower resolution. Then higher when you select it. I have this on my iPhone Max s. So I would not concern yourself about it too much.
Look at the yellow iPhone in both images. The first one is what I see when I just look through google thumbnails. The second image is what I see when I click on it. The thumbnails are so grainy and blurry that you almost cannot even see the apple logo on that yellow phone.

This seems to be the case with a lot of platforms, google was just my example. So low resolution thumbnails are a thing for X users to get used to?
My take if is high resolution pictures to search it would take more band usage and use more data and be slower to load. But you would expect better.
