Hey all,
I just need a way to download all near 5GB of emails that I have on my icloud account. I want to back them up on an external drive, then do a purge on my icloud.
Any utility on windows/mac or any other solution works for me. I just need to somehow get all my emails pulled out of icloud so that I can purge them all.

There goes 30 bucks for something pretty basic.
edit: final result was over 56,000 emails, but I could only get it via emailchemy. I hope someone finds a free way to circumvent the solution i had to go with, would be nice if Apple reintroduced the no limit export.

Try using Apple'sMail program on a Mac computer. Add the account in Mail/Preferences/Accounts, download all the emails, then select the iCloud inbox, and then Mail/Mailbox/Export Mailbox. That should give you a copy to move to the external drive. Then go back to the iCloud inbox and use command - A to select all the emails. Then hit the delete key.
So I went ahead and exported the mailbox and EVEN THOUGH my mail account goes all the way back to 2007, when I actually do the export and import to something else (I imported to Thunderbird for testing), it only goes back to 2017. The size is also only 1.4GB, not the entire 4.5GB. I need all the emails pulled over and this isn't doing that. :(
Does anyone know of a confirmed way to force Mail to export THE ENTIRE local mailbox? Should the above method work?
Edit: i did check and it says partial, so maybe it was still doing the process and I just wasn't patient enough. I am trying it again, I'll post again depending on outcome. I'll give it an hour or more.
And, after waiting LONGER I got a marked INBOX.mbox which I imported, but it too only had files all the way back to 2016. (It was 2GB now, not 1.4GB). Total number of emails went from 23000 to 33000, but I am still missing at least 9 years.

Since you waited longer and more downloaded, it appears to be making progress. Given the size of what you are trying to sync, it is going to take a long time.
