iPhone 6s - SIM Not Supported

Hi,

I purchased a used iPhone 6s on eBay that is locked to Sprint. I have worked with Sprint both online and at Sprint stores trying to swap / activate the phone but it always has the same error - "SIM Not Supported" The phone has been reset to factory, we have tried multiple SIMS, the phone IMEI is clean.

I have also contacted Apple via phone where they looked into the issue and stated it has to be Sprint, they then connected me to Sprint and we ran the same activation process I've done 3 times now and the result is was the same.

Please help!

It's entirely possible that Sprint never processed the unlock; they can be rather bureaucratic sometimes. If you call Apple support they can tell you if Sprint actually unlocked the phone. If it says SIM Not Supported then the phone is NOT locked to Sprint. It is locked to a different carrier.

Did you reset the phone to factory settings, without restoring a backup? Does it say Sprint in the upper left corner? Does it show any bars? It's always possible that the phone is defective. Has Sprint or Apple checked to see if the IMEI is blacklisted?

I have reset the phone to factory settings with and without restoring backup. There are bars when I am on the wifi setup page but when I hit next and it says activating phone ... the bars go to No Service and then I get the error Apple and Sprint have checked the IMEI and it is clean. No one has mentioned to me that the phone being defective but that is always a possibility when things are not working.

Ok, but the phone is locked to sprint and my phone carrier is Sprint so there is no need to unlock it - correct?

The iPhone says the carrier is Sprint and Sprint thinks the same think from their database - but somehow that's not the truth?

How can I find that mystery carrier?

The phone was locked to AT&T. Even though Sprint and Apple both stated the phone was unlocked. Apple was able to tell me who the 1st carrier of the phone was(AT&T) so I went to their automated unlock service and the SIM card is now working, the error is gone!
