Can safari get malware from websites on ios

I know that many people have asked this, but I can not find the answer that I am looking for. I understand that ios does not get malware because of the sand box thing, but what about the safari app? Can malware form a website or ad infect the safari app and make things happen when you are using the safari app? I understand that if you do not have a jail broken device your device(ios) can not get malware, but can the safari app get malware that will attach it self to the app and run when you use it? Can that happen? Side question: Why does my iPad2 not go past ios 9.3.5?

I would never use "can not get malware" on any electronic devices including iOS. If iOS is so secure, there will be no security fixes but that is not the case. We've seen many iOS releases that include security patches that fix "holes" in iOS.

As for the question about malware that infects apps installed on the device... I believe you already have that answer (ie: because of the sand box thing) so no that is very difficult to pull. Keep in mind that Safari browser, just like any other browsers, is not immune to tricks (pop-up scripts) to fool users into contacting the scammers to give them either money or identity (or both).

Most cases that I've heard are social engineering cases where iPad/iPhone users are tricked. It is never malware infection. Most users who ask for help think it is malware/virus because they can't tell the difference.

Thank you. I have never had any pop-ups on my iPad wanting me to contact support for anything. I just did not know if it was possible for some malware to infect safari and then spy on me or something like that. I have also never had my iPad on a public wifi or used a charger that was not my own, or plug my iPad into any computer that was not my own. One other question, If I had to reset my iPad can I still do that, Or because ios 9 is no longer supported would I not be able to?

Anything is possible but it is extremely hard to infect Safari browser (or infect apps). Keep in mind that you are now using an outdated device with iOS 9 that is no longer supported. Any security problems on iOS 9 will be ignored. There won't be any software update to fix the security problems on iOS 9. If bad guys successfully exploit the problems, your device will be vulnerable. I have not heard of such horror (yet).

As for "spying", without getting into details, all websites track users browsing habit. Not sure if that's what you meant by "spying". You may reset your iPad at any time. You will lose everything in your iPad if you reset all contents and settings.
