External GPU and Thunderbolt 2-3 adaptor for an early 2015 macbook pro? For editing/animation

Hi all, I have an early 2015 13" macbook pro with thunderbolt 2. Would I be able to use an external GPU with a thunderbolt 2-3 adaptor? I edit animation/live action projects, primarily in Adobe Premiere Pro. My laptop clearly struggles with the graphics, but I would prefer not to upgrade if an external GPU can help.

Thanks!
