iPad Pro 12.9 3rd Gen - Model A2014 - no Verizon with eSIM - But Europe?

I hope some can tell me what I'm missing. Caveat: I've talked to two people via phone at Apple and several at the Apple Store. I cannot get a clear answer.

Just upgraded from 1st Gen Retina iPad to the 3rd Gen iPad Pro. Wow! Thank you Apple.

Context: Will use in USA and abroad. Connectivity is paramount.

Was told by the A-Store folks that the eSIM would allow me to configure the provider. What they didn't tell me was that Verizon is not included. Therefore, I had to stop at Verizon and purchase a Nano-SIM card. Works like a champ.

However, after being told the eSIM would work I began to investigate.

I'm trying to find out if these conclusions are accurate as the Apple site is a bit confusing and in many ways seems to contradict itself or leave out the details. (Or, it's me!).

The models mentioned below are exclusive to certain regions of the world.

My "conclusions" thus far are marked T-True, F-False, U-Undetermined.

The Model A2014 12.9 iPad Pro 12.9 with eSIM:

  1. Does NOT support Verizon via integral eSIM. (T, but why?)
  2. Will only support Verizon via a Verizon Nano-SIM (extra $20) (T, but why?)
  3. Will only support providers in Canada, Mexico, Puerto Rico, and USA via eSIM, as long as they are not Verizon. (T)
  4. Will not support providers in Europe, S. America, Asia, etc. via integral eSIM (U, this one is confusing as there are just a couple of channels not supported on this model vs the model below.)

The Model A1895 12.9 iPad Pro 12.9 with eSIM:

  1. Will support Verizon via a Verizon Nano-SIM (U)
  2. Will support Verizon via the integral eSIM (U)
  3. Will NOT support USA, Canada, Mexico, and Puerto Rico via the integral eSIM. (U)

My conclusions thus far are that I need to purchase the A1895 to get mostly global support via the integral eSIM and then insert a Verizon nano-SIM for support at home in the USA. However, nobody can tell me if this would work. Worse, I've been told I can only purchase this model by being in one of the markets supported, i.e., not in the USA.

Or, is it possible that the eSIM in the A2014 (USA market) will actually support providers in most of the world with the exception of the two channels missing that may thwart some providers? In other words, use my Verizon nano-SIM here at home and the eSIM when abroad.

It would be great if the iPad Cellular Plan | Add a New Plan would let me select a country or region instead of being dependent upon the GPS signal. This would allow me to test out some of my questions above (at least view the viable partners).

This is not meant to be a rant. Just trying to decide if I should return my A2014 and wait to purchase a A1895 when in Europe.

Bottom line: Without having a box of nano-SIMs for every country I'm trying to optimize use of the eSIM. What's the best path forward?
