Possible to record video at 25 FPS?

Hi.

i live in Europe and use 25/50 FPS for recording video (reduce flickering from artificial light etc). Is it possible to record in 25 FPS on the iPhone XS? I can only see 24, 30 and 60...

Agreed. But it is a nice unit to capture B-roll with. Thanks, I guess that answers my question. I’ll leave the thread “unsolved” hoping to get more inputs, maybe someone has a suggestion how to bypass this. I’ve read about third party options, but I don’t quite understand how that should open up different frame rates...

You may wish to read the companion article:

https://www.provideocoalition.com/video-framerates-and-the-tower-of-babel-a-translation-guide/

From the first article:

"In the case of apps in iOS devices, to my knowledge, all iOS camera apps including the iOS camera app, FiLMiC Pro and MoviePro shoot at VFR (variable framerate) for efficiency’s sake, and the framerate you choose before shooting is only a target, not a final framerate."

and the second one:

" FiLMiC Pro

As explained in other articles, FiLMiC Pro and other iOS video recording apps actually shoot in approximate, variable framerate (VFR), so when FiLMiC Pro says 24, it really means ±24; when it says 25, it really means ±25, and when it says 30, it really means ±30. The actual framerate recorded is often much lower and even varies within a shot"

This is an older topic from 2011 so keep in mind things may have changed in 8 years but has some interesting comments at the bottom, including:

Thanks again for a very informative reply =)

Yeah, I'm not an expert either.. But I do know that I don't like the "frame skipping" I see when I put a 30 fps clip into a 25 fps timeline in my editor (FCPX). I'd like to have control over this part, forcing all my videos to be the same fps (25, 50 or 100) to avoid skipping artifacts.. I guess this is out of my control on the iPhone, which like you say is not a big deal, its not my main gear. But it would be nice to use this more to record B-roll when on vacations and something shows up that I would like to film =)

No posts from others so far. I suspect the video gearheads hang out in the Final Cut Pro forum and if you want serious tech-speak you may wish to ask your question there though they may just point out some feature in FCP.
