New apple pencil not fully charged while attached to ipad

Hi,

I leave my Apple Pencil magnetically attached to my iPad Pro. When I lift it off, I often find it is not fully charged (maybe 90%) charged. As soon as I reattach it, the iPad tells me it is charging the pencil and very soon the pencil is at 100%. Is this standard behavior, or does it suggest that there is something wrong with the power management on my pencil? I would naively have thought if the Apple Pencil was constantly attached it would be kept at 100%, but perhaps Apple finds it more efficient to allow it to drain and then recharge?

Make an appointment at the nearest Apple location to have your iPd

and pencil evaluated for free.

Once the diagnostics are complete, the staff will explain your options.

Thanks for your help, but the problem comes back after pairing the pencil. Sometimes it takes longer than other times, but sometimes it reappears right after pairing. The pencil can be sitting full attached to the iPad and yet still leaks charge.

I understand your Apple Pencil is not fully charged when connected to your iPad Pro but if you unattached/reattach it, it will soon charge to 100%. I'm happy to assist you with this. First make sure you've updated to our newest iOS version: Update your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch

If issue persists, unpair/repair the Apple Pencil to your iPad: Use Apple Pencil with your iPad or iPad Pro
