how do I transfer photos to my LINUX computer?

I have a MBpro and have always transfered the data files and photos/movies from my iPhone to the MB and used them there or transfered to an external drive for storage. Never had a problem while using Apple products.

Here's the rub: also have a linux computer that occasionally need to transfer photos to from the iPhone while away from the MB. How do I transfer directly from the iPhone to a linux machine? Carrying two laptops is not an option.

The iPhone cannot communicate with the LINUX PC because there is no native interface as the iPhone does not (officially) support LINUX. My guess is that you would have to use some sort of cloud based storage service, upload the pics form your iPhone, and then download them to your LINUX machine. Most of the third party solutions offered seem to be along the lines of Ubuntu, etc.

Yeah..I know...not a perfect solution..but...

I have connected the iPhone to the Apple Lightning/USB cable and plugged it in to the USB port on the LINUX laptop and, although the laptop see that there is an iPhone connected, it cannot communicate to retrieve anything. Have attempted the same using both Linux Mint 18.3 and Ubuntu Gnome 18.04 and 18.10 on two different LIinux computers.

I do not want to load all kinds of 'iffy' software packages or make radical changes to the OS or phone, reformat anything, or sync anything. Just want to transfer some data/photos stored on the phone.
