is there any way to access wifi with my Ipad when travelling in our motorhome or boosting signal?

Often away in our motorhome so far in UK but hoped to travel in Europe too, unless sites have WiFi it is hard to get access to WiFi. Need some way to boost signal or get access when away

You do not need an extra device to get WiFi on your iPad via your smartphone. Smartphones (at least iPhones) have the capacity to create an internal WiFi hotspot that your WiFi-only device can connect to. Check in the cellular settings. Of course, you will be using some your cellular data allotment to do this.

You need to give us a little more info.

Using WiFi is very limiting while traveling on the road, especially when there are areas that are devoid of any WiFi signals/activity.

I live in an area where Wifi signals and activity are practically everywhere, so using a WiFi ONLY device is, for the most part, not really an issue.

So, trying to boost WiFi on your iPad will not help as you actually need a way to gain access to the Internet through a WifI signal.

This is not easily done while traveling as you can't connect to the Internet while moving.

You need to stop at locations that advertise public WiFi.

If WiFi signals and public WiFi are scarce in some areas of the U.K. and Europe, then relying on a WiFi ONLY device is not a good or sound idea.

That stated, either purchase a new iPad with cellular data and pay for a cellular data plan for that iPad OR if you own a smartphone/iPhone that is on a cellular plan, you can go to your cellular provider or purchase online a small portable WiFi/MiFi device that will link your WiFi only iPad to your smartphone/iPhone and its cellular signal and data so you can use that iPad over Wifi from your phone’s data plan for consistent connection to the Internet while traveling.

Best of Luck to You!

With non-Apple smartphones, some need an extra, small portable device to be the intermediary to connect tablet to phone.

No, they don't. All Android phones that I own come with built-in hotspot feature and they're not even flagship phones. I'm using cheap entry level Android phones that cost less than $200. As long as the cellular provider plan allows it, all you have to do is enable hotspot on the phone.

Without hotspot feature or hotspot plan, MiFi device (as you mentioned earlier) will do the job. As for that (in bold text), I have no idea what you're suggesting. If you're using a MiFi device, there is no need to connect to the phone. Were you trying to say "connect tablet to the internet"?

Hi, sallenmd !

Unlike you I am 100% certain they work. For it to be anything else, one would have to explain why RV manufacturers in the USA are starting to install these boosters as OEM equipment despite them not working.

The use case I believe you have missed is being just out of range of the Wi-Fi while being relegated to the hinterlands of an RV park. In this case one is authorized and entitled to use the Wi-Fi for which one has paid. Some RV parks are lucky to even have Wi-Fi, let alone not having the money to blanket their parks with Wi-Fi. Hence, the use of Wi-Fi boosters - aftermarket and OEM - in the RV community is absolutely exploding.

Hi, CarlaImala !

I know in America it is as easy as throwing the phrase "RV wifi signal booster" at Google. I do not think that will be of much help to you in the UK. I suspect one would need to modify the search phrase slightly, but the gist should be the same. I should think there should be some sort of WiFi signal booster for sale in the UK, specifically designed for use with caravans going on holiday.

I hope this helps, and good luck !

I thought MFI devices are just miniature/portable/pocketable Wifi signal ONLY generator/MODEMs and that you still need to get/recieve the actual Internet from another Internet connected service/device, like that from a cell phone with cellular connection.

My 4-year old cheap Android Alcatel phone has no Wifi hotspot capability built-in.

Do MiFi devices have built-in SIM cards for cellular service?

I didn't think so.

Not all Android phones has built-in hotspot feature. I don't know about MiFi for CDMA cellular network but MiFi devices for GSM cellular network use SIM card

It's just like a smartphone with hotspot capability but all it does it just routing (2 way) traffic from WiFi devices to the internet over cellular network.
