I was very disappointed to discover that the new iphone does not have the option to use portrait option on a inanimate objects.

Is this something that can be fixed with a software update?

Or is it permanent and immutable?

I've invested a lot of money on this phone and I'm disappointed at difficult levels.

I bought it for a job that needs nice pictures and I am now in serious trouble.

That limit is only related to XR model (without dual cameras).

But we can't reply to you question. We're just users like yourself, and are not aware of Apple future plans.

Just to avoid misunderstandings, the "portrait mode" mentioned by the OP refers to the use of the camera, not the orientation of the iPhone.
