To back up your iPhone to iCloud,

1. you first need to open your Settings app.
2. Then, tap at your Apple ID profile picture (circle) with your name next to it (the first item on your screen).
3. Tap on iCloud.
4. Scroll down to find the row that says iCloud Backup, and tap it. (It is the last item in the list)
5. Tap the switch to turn on iCloud Backup.

It is best to turn on periodic backups, to ensure the existence of a recent backup when something happens to your phone or when you transfer to a new device.

The rest of the steps that might be necessary will be explained form this point on. Also you should make sure that you have enough iCloud storage to make the backups.
