Mac will not sync some of my Contacts to iCloud

I've tried everything I have found in other syncing problems posts. Toggling Contacts on and off, Shutting down & restarting, etc.

My Mac's Contacts contents total 557 cards.

My iCloud Contacts show 369 contacts.

When I sync to iPhone or iPad Mini, I get 369 contacts. That is to say, I cannot sync all the Contacts I see on my Mac.

There may be some small differences (20 or so) if I add or exclude a small Group.

The 188 missing contacts appear to be randomly spaced in my Mac Contacts list, and either singly or in blocks, and both recent and old contacts are affected.

My Mac is a 2011 21.5", and I can't download Mojave, but this problem started long ago.

Now running Mac OS 10.13.6 High Sierra.

Calendar seems to be unaffected.

I would welcome some help! Thank you.

Hello brenden dv

You were right about the accounts. In my case there were Contacts in several accounts and in Groups, I had to move them all into one group "All iCloud" and then turn off everything and let the devices sort it out. Not forgetting to have devices connected correctly. All came back across the groups. Now I can make up some basic groups and move the contacts back into them as appropriate.

Many thanks!

Hello NexeMan,

Thank you for using Apple Support Communities! I understand from the information you provided that not all of your contacts are syncing across your devices; I'd like to help.

Some of your contacts may come from sources other than iCloud. You can sync contacts with many other account like Gmail and Hotmail to name just a couple. You may be syncing these contacts to one device but not the other. Here's a resource that shows how to enabled contacts from your other accounts:

Manage and delete contacts on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch

Hope this helps.

Best Regards.

Thanks very much, brenden dv.

That looks as if it may be my problem explained, or certainly part of it.

I see that I have about 95 of my Mac's 557 contacts originating in the couple of accounts you mention, plus a few from Yahoo. That could leave about 95 more to find and analyse; it'll take a bit of time so I will let you know how I get on, shortly.

I have also just seen a query on the same problem in MacRumors. In the discussion there is talk of this Contacts syncing problem having shown up when High Sierra came along. So I'll follow that up as well!
