iOS 12.1.4 battery drain

Am I the only one with this issue? Yesterday, or the day before that, I updated my iPhone XR. One thing I've come to notice is that, since I updated it, the battery drains pretty fast. I'd say I'm an average user and I could go the entire day and it wouldn't reach 20%. Now, around 4PM, after being fully charged around 5AM, it's down to 50%. I just find it weird, knowing that I'm an average user, my average screentime is around 2 hours a day, so I don't know what's up.

I've been watching this feed with great interest since I updated my iPhone 7 plus on Friday 15th Feb and almost immediately my battery was decreasing at an alarming rate. I listened to 5 minutes of a podcast and it had dropped 20%. Also when using safari, in addition to draining very quickly, my phone became very warm to the touch. I did a reboot, checked background activity etc. and no change. Finally this morning as I couldn't continue with my phone like this, I did a full restore and backup recovery.

So far, it seems to be back to normal for me at least. Browsing, listening to podcasts and had 3 reasonable length calls so far in the last hour and the battery is still showing as 94%. It's also not getting warm either.

I too have seen battery drain since the update. Yesterday while out and about, my battery drained quickly, when I was at 1% and on my way home I Powered Off my phone. When I got home about 5 minutes later I plugged it into the charger and the phone started up immediately and said that my battery was at 57% rather than 1% and charging. Very strange! My Battery Health says 81%

Me too, I had battery drain problems with iOS 12.1.2, then upgraded to 12.1.3 and it was fixed.

Now with 12.1.4 again I cannot last till 1pm, with little use during the morning (just alarm clock and some notifications, but I answer from the computer), so almost no use from the phone.

I have an iPhone 7 and I don't have an Apple watch connected.

Can we have a fix for the battery problems please ???

I've got an SE which was on 100% charge about three hours but is now down to 37%....despite having been plugged into a charger all night. Clearly the battery is draining far quicker than it's charging. The exact same thing happened last night as well but had never once happened before installing 12.1.4 the day before. Is this a coincidence? I think not.

The strange thing was that the phone had been fine during the day, when it was connected to the wi-fi in work, and only started draining at the same time in the evening that it started yesterday. I might try doing a factory reset but I won't have time until the weekend so hopefully Apple will pull their fingers out and sort this out before then. I suspect when I next update my phone I'll be looking at Android phones!

FWIW - our older iPad Pro had severe battery drain after initially installing 12.1.4 but after a day or two it went back to normal. Just like many of you, at night it was 100% and by morning it’d be at 40% or lower. But yeah, anyway just wanted to report back that with no change on our end (didn’t restore) other than restarting, the battery life has drastically improved.

FWIW? That feedback is worth a great deal. It supports the concept of spotlight re-indexing and app background activity to adjust to changes which I suggested early in the thread normally lasts two days and has happened for as long as phones and tablets have had updates.

occasionally rogue apps (Facebook?) cause greater background problems that dont settle.

I had my faith in the Spotlight theory, but after 4 days, last night I gave up and decided to just restart the phone. I've been ok today, no battery draining issues today.

So maybe it just needs another restart. One for the update, and another to get used to it ;-)

But I didn't need that when I installed 12.1.3 which solved my previous draining issues I had with 12.1.2.

As for the ones that claim this is normal, that there is no issue, etc., just don't read (and please don't answer) the threads that don't concern you. We just need ideas and positive feedback.

I hope this one helps someone.

My daughter's phone sits in my vehicle all day while she's in school. It is in a mophie battery case and always uses 1 dot (out of 4) on the case during her 8 hour school day. It's been this way for 5 months. We installed this update and for the last 2 days since the update, the mophie is DRAINED and the phone's battery is in the mid 90s when I pick her up. The app data doesn't show what is draining the battery and all apps are closed (same as always). This update ***.

Chiming in here. I have an iPhone SE. Updated to 12.1.4 last night (2/21). This afternoon was waiting in line at a restaurant and checked my phone. It had 80% battery then crashed as I was using Twitter. Tried to turn it on and it gave me the low battery/charge your phone graphic. 10 minutes later and it turns on, has only 10% battery. Used it for an hour after dinner and it hovered at 10% without change. Getting flashbacks from the iOS 11 launch.

ipad pro 11"

so i did a full factory reset last night.

100% charge this morning, no use, background app refresh turned off. 6 hrs later battery is now 80%. a bit better than before reset, but i dont think it should be using any battery, if i am not using it. i have an 5 yro ipad which has not ben updated, and it does not use any battery when sleeping.
