iOS 12.1.4 battery drain

Am I the only one with this issue? Yesterday, or the day before that, I updated my iPhone XR. One thing I've come to notice is that, since I updated it, the battery drains pretty fast. I'd say I'm an average user and I could go the entire day and it wouldn't reach 20%. Now, around 4PM, after being fully charged around 5AM, it's down to 50%. I just find it weird, knowing that I'm an average user, my average screentime is around 2 hours a day, so I don't know what's up.

Update - after changing a few settings (most of my settings were already set to save battery life) late Thursday woke up yesterday and it had dropped from 95% to 36% (still terrible considering nothing should have been running - battery showed it dropping steadily overnight with no usage - powered the phone off - then on - charged the phone most of the day yesterday. Went to bed at 83% power last night and woke up to 83% power this morning - success.

Restoring the phone to factory settings will fix it. - it wont fix everything i just lost

So will restoring from a backup fix it for most users. - nope

Just restarting the phone will fix it for some. - nope

Deleting Facebook fixes it for a lot of users. - didn't have to begin with

And just waiting a few days will fix it to give the phone time to finish its housekeeping. - nope

Any other ideas, or can we all now agree that the software has an issue that Apple should be fixing, not me spending my weekends for them...

Had the same issue here with 15 month old iphone 7 . Battery dropping from 100% to 30% in 3 hours with 0 minutes of screen turned on. Connecting the phone to it’s charging block for 15 min would bring the battery status to 96% but would not hit 100% even after 5 hours plugged in. I simply powered off the device for a minute and back on did the trick. I have been running on the same charge for 16 hours and my battery is at 68% still... hope this lasts !!

hi Peter

appreciate your comments, thankyou.

But here's the thing. i also have an 5 yro ipad, which is a clone of my ipad pro, running exactly the same apps, and same setup. Only difference is, it's running ios 12.1.3. It would be lucky to loose 1% battery overnight when sleeping. When using it, the battery drains quickly, the reason I bought the new ipad, ironic really.

Im getting notifications to update to ios 12.1.4, yeah sure, not.

Hi Heyyou2, no problems.

Miku-39 you may be getting very close. If something is in constant wifi communication then maybe the high bandwidth used simply looks like bad connection.

If it was me I would want to go the extra step and clean out the thing but then as a pensioner with no social media accounts I guess I have the time.

Having same issue after updating this useless / useful software. I don't have confidence about battery life after this. It drains very fast with battery health of 87%.

Siri is consuming **** lot of battery. It seems these are all nothing to do with apps or anything, it is with software because either not downloaded any new apps or not using for 24 hours...

i never come come across like this since 3 and half years and it started after updating to latest version of software.

could anyone help us all

many thanks

What will really help is to plug it in overnight. Then you don't care how much battery it uses, because it will be zero. And the phone will be fully charged in the morning. If you turn on automatic backups it will also back up the phone to iCloud every night when the phone is locked and connected to power and Wi-Fi (Wi-Fi stays on when the phone is connected to power).

Why should anyone have to do this? I have done all of the above steps and more. I dont have facebook, so it cant be that. This morning I used waze and podcast. Same as I do everyday and here it is at 50%

My battery consumption was fine last week before the update installed. It was lasting all day and I was able to do everything I needed to do. Now the battery is at 50% even before midday. Nothing else has changed, yet my battery is lasting at least 50% less than what it was just last week. If anything I have been avoiding using the phone to try and conserve battery.

There is obviously an issue with the update, Whilst your suggestions are great, the fact remains that they didnt fix the issue

Feb 24, 2019 9:54 PM in response to Lawrence Finch

and yet you don't think there is an issue with the update despite recommending a long list of these things to do, which I may add take a lot of times and haven't solved it...

just admit there is something wrong with the update, that is why people are providing annoyed responses, it is your attitude as though we have done something wrong, when in fact we are the victims here.

Feb 25, 2019 12:31 AM in response to Clean-_-Freak

There are so many of us without the problem and several on here who actually tried a full factory restore and got rid of theirs that it is pretty clear there is an app or setting that is incompatible with the update.

Maybe its Apple’s bad, who knows.

we are not apple and we don’t have to accept or admit anything. If you really did a full restore and still have a problem after 48 hours I would get the hardware looked at.

Or you can sit on your hands and shout #victim
