iOS 12.1.4 battery drain

Am I the only one with this issue? Yesterday, or the day before that, I updated my iPhone XR. One thing I've come to notice is that, since I updated it, the battery drains pretty fast. I'd say I'm an average user and I could go the entire day and it wouldn't reach 20%. Now, around 4PM, after being fully charged around 5AM, it's down to 50%. I just find it weird, knowing that I'm an average user, my average screentime is around 2 hours a day, so I don't know what's up.

Yes could well be Apple. They are responsible for testing new iOS updates with native apps and settings.

Equally third party app developers are responsible to test their products against iOS updates. They will have been given notice.

Doesn't matter how big Google or FB or Twitter or MS may be, they need to test their stuff too . Until we know which app or setting it is we should reserve judgement. Until then either live with it or clean out the phone.

Even Forbes doesn't report this - that is how big a bug it is. Google only finds this thread, plus some others from previous updates.

I replied in this thread about a week or so ago that I performed a Factory Reset, after backing up first, then restoring the backup after the reset.

I am happy to report that my phone seems like it is back to normal. For me, with my usual use, I will drain the battery from 100% down to 40-45% during the day, from about 6:00am until 10:00pm.

I'm going to call Apple and repeat this against my case number.

Want to share u all what happened yesterday night that battery charged to 88% and removed from plug and morning 5.30 I have seen cell, battery was there at 4%. And immideately it got switched off and it took 2 hours to switch on after plug in.

It never happened in 4 years and it is happening after this 12.1.4 update. As I know, nothing to do with application or settings there is problem with new software

Ok, IPad Pro 12.9 less than a year old, draining like crazy. Same usage, but, over double the battery drain. Same for my IPhone X s max, draining so much, its not lasting my whole day. Used to outlast my day and it is also less than a year old. My Apple Watch is almost 2 years old and died after approx 8 hours yesterday. They all are fully charged with apple cables at night in airplane mode. It started after the update. Can we please get this fixed, as I rely heavily on these products for my work. Thanking Apple in advance...

I think you have identified the problem, Alan From Boston.

I upgraded to 12.1.4 on Sunday night. Monday, I took the phone off the charger. Battery indicated 100%. 5 minutes later, the phone restarted itself and indicated 10%. Later, rinse and repeat over the last several days. When I plug it back in, it charges back up to 100% in something like 10 minutes. This is not normal.

Before anybody suggests a battery replacement, this is a brand-new battery; Apple replaced it on 12/22/2018. There is no reason that a brand-new battery (which has been working perfectly since it was installed) should be behaving in this fashion. I have not installed any new apps, nor changed the way I used the phone. The only thing that is different is the upgrade.

This problem is extremely annoying; my phone is effectively a doorstop at this point. Apple needs to fix this issue, pronto.

What you CAN do is read the thread and see what has been suggested. Being totally the same as someone else who has not read the thread leaves you totally in the same place.

It IS the upgrade but only affects a few people so is probably app related. Other were affected by previous updates.

If you want to restore as new you can fix it. If you don't want the 2 hours away from your social media then leave it alone and wait for the fix.

I am in the same boat. iPad Pro, iPhone X both draining like my old iPhone 6 after the battery gate issues. I have background app refresh turned off on both devices. they are dropping about 10-15% an hour without being used and I have noticed that the iPad Pro is not going to sleep after the set time either. Apple, fix these issues please!

That’s not the case at all, I’ve checked and my battery is brand new plus i just followed what another person suggested which was to reset my phone as new which didn’t work at all. It’s definitely this new update so they need to fix this asap, just keeping your phone hooked to a charger all the time will permanently damage the battery and with me just paying $50 to have my old one replaced literally 2 weeks ago I won’t be paying for another.

I tried setting my phone up as new but that didnt help at all, it’s still draining even while on the charger super quickly and i havent even downloaded any social media yet so Apple needs to hurry and fix this because I literally just got a brand new battery for $50 and if me having to keep my phone on the charger all day just to slow down the draining I’m definitely not buying another if it permanently damages it

Thanks for the comment, Peter! It's not the social media I am worried about, but losing > 1/2 day with reinstalling and reconfiguring everything (including some trade show / conference stuff I may not even be able to set up anymore on my own).

Decided to wait for it to shake itself out of the system ... which seems to be happening now (fingers crossed).

Interesting experience to live without constant streaming ability for a week - almost cathartic. Maybe I will join the Amish now ...

Hi all, wanted to update you all about my experience on battery drain after update this software, I have been using iPhone since 4 years, used to update all latest software as on when released, but this time I had experience battery drain from 93% to 4 % in one night. I used to check my battery consumption, majority was for Siri and Whatsapp with 48% and 26% respectively, I have observed like this for 4 to 5 days. I didn’t do any changes my to my settings but battery consumption is fine now but only change is Siri is not listed under battery consumption.

Please do check ur battery consumption from Siri.

if it is not there, then phone works fine.

This is my practical experience

many thanks
