Motion 5: Zoom In on Still Image

What is the best way to zoom in on a still image in Motion 5.

I tried the following:

  1. Adding a camera and moving the camera towards the image. This doesn't work, I assume because there has to be multiple frames for the zoom effect to work, but I don't understand how it functions. So I don't really know why this doesn't work
  2. Added the grow/shrink behavior. You can't associate Keyframes with this behavior so it appears that you must just trim the behavior to the duration over which you want the effect to take place. Then I added a "Move" behavior to restore the view to the area on which I wanted to focus. This works but it seems like a tedious approach.

I wondered if there is a way to focus on an area of the image and zoom in on that particular area without having to make additional adjustments.

I've looked around this support section and Youtube but don't seem this problem addressed so perhaps its all very obvious and I've missed.

Would appreciate any help or guidance.

Thanks.

If you are using the camera...try the camera behaviors - they are in the 'camera section of the behaviours menu

You have a zoom behavior there, try it out. You can set duration as you need.

However, if you want to send the camera in close to 'zoom' in on an area of an image, there is a method you can use with the 'framing' behavior.

When you add the framing behavior, you will see that it requires a 'target'

You don't want to add your image as the target, because then the target becomes the entire image.

Instead, draw a shape around the area you want to zoom in on. Use that rectangle as the 'target' and turn of the visibility of the rectangle in the layers panel. Now, the framing behavior will act upon that rectangle area, creating the zoom in animation.

There is youtube tutorial related to cameras here, from AV Ultra.

But, to be honest, if you want to get the best basic training for camera, you should get the Ripple Training course.

If you want to increase the size/scale of a layer/object and have duration control, you can use the 'Ramp' parameter behavior. Just add the behavior to the parameter you want to control and you can set a start and end value for it - and have the duration control by adjusting the 'start' and 'end' off-sets.

Good luck with your project.
