Sub bullet doesn't work sometimes

This is something that has been in Keynote since I can remember, and it's still in the latest version. I'm wondering if anyone else gets this bug.

Sometimes when pressing TAB to make a bullet a sub-bullet, Keynote doesn't format it as the sub-bullet, which I usually use a dash "–". Keynote will just decide for this slide, nope, not going to format it with the dash. It formats it the same as the first level bullet. It does indent it, but with the wrong format (font/bullet shape).

Anyone else getting this?

This is not a bug, it is correct behaviour in Keynote, there is no automatic selection of bullet style in Keynote, it is assigned manually:

  • enter the required text in a text box
  • with the text box selected, left align the text
  • with the text box selected; apply bullets, in Inspector > Format > Text > Bullets and Lists
  • with the text box selected, increase the indent in a line of text; place the cursor anywhere in that line and press the tab key
  • with the text box selected, change the bullet style; click in the Bullet style dropdown menu and select the required style
  • repeat for other lines of text
