Slight Crack On the Ipad Pro Screen in Warranty, Do I need to pay for Screen

Hello There,

I am an I Pad Pro 2017 10.5 Inch User. This Deive is still in its warranty.

Today I noticed a slight crack at the edge of the screen near smart connector pins. However I barely use it or carry it arround and I am not sure from where it got this crack.

Will I need to pay for its repair? How will it cost in India?

Accidental damage is not covered by the warranty, so yes, fees for service apply.

Find an authorized service provider here - https://locate.apple.com/in/en/ and then contact them about cost of repair.

If you purchased extended, two-year AppleCare+, at purchase or within 60 days of purchase, AppleCare+covers two incidents of accidental/incidental damage ( one damage incident per year ) for a small iPad replacement fee of $49 U.S.D.

If you didn’t purchase extended AppleCare+, the standard, free, one-year AppleCare does NOT cover ANY accidental/incidental damages and you will be subjected to an expensive, out-of-warranty repair/replacement cost.

Here is the cost breakdown here.

That really depends on your luck. I went through a similar situation. I got a hairline crack (about 0.5 inch long) on the back of the device, right on the cellular antenna (top back side). I never dropped or abused it. It was only less than 6 months old. The crack is barely visible but it's there. I was afraid it would become worse over time so I took it to a nearby store and got it replaced under warranty.

We're just users like you and we can only share our own experience. I can't give you a definite answer if you must pay for the repair. I can't even guarantee you'll get a free replacement if you go to the same store I went to. The only way to find out is to visit an Apple store.

Here is the update,

The moment before I was planning to goto the service centre, I dedicated to clean the device with a soft cloth.

Once I touched the cracked area with the cloth, another similar crack I saw forming in front of my eyes. And I remember yesterday evening, the first crack I noticed was during the same time; ie cleaning. There is seriously something wrong. I’m barely touching this device now.

Once the screen is cracked, any pressure will cause more cracks. That's the way glass works.

If this is one of the new iPad Pro models, almost none of the currently available screen protectors work with the new 2018 iPad Pro models with the new liquid retina screen.

Screen protectors on these new iPad Pros interfere with both touch res;onsiveness AND the touch response of the new Apple Pencil.

This is a fairly well known issue here in the iPad Support Communities.
