I bought my 15" MacBook Pro with Retina display in 2014 brand new. There was always a very small whitish "dot" right in the middle of the screen, but lately it seems like it is growing - it is about 1 inch across and squiggly. Any ideas of how to fix it?

Check to see if your display has the AR Coating issue which could qualify it for a free Display replacement even with the defect. Sometimes the AR issue is only noticeable around the camera and is not as severe as the pictures show in the link.

Believe it or not I have herd reports of mixed success by "massaging" the spot gently with your fingers. Whether that treatment resulted in anything resembling a permanent fix is doubtful.
No promises.
