Firewall and security not installed

bought my Apple Mac March 2017. In Dec 2018 there was a problem. Called Apple Care and they said fire wall and security was not installed. I was GUARANTEED my computer was secure when I bought it. Apple Care charged me $400 to install fire wall and security. Then Feb 2019 another problem. Apple Care charge me another $300. because my IP Address was not secure and compromised. Now, (still February) , Apple Care told me my drives are old and corrupted and for another $300. they could fix this. Can someone please help me understand how all this could happen to a new computer! thanks in advance for your help.

Called Apple Care ...

You did not call AppleCare.

Excerpted from Effective defenses against malware and other threats:

  • Don't rely upon Internet search engines to obtain technical support phone numbers:
    • Scam artists pay popular Internet search companies in exchange for greater prominence in search results, so their websites and contact information are given precedence over the legitimate companies they fraudulently claim to represent.
    • If you require technical support, determine the company's legitimate contact information from their own website or product literature, and initiate contact with them directly.
    • Support for all Apple products is obtained by using the Contact Support link at the top of this web page.

Apple does not install Firewall or Security. Both of those functions are already built into your Mac. Also Apple never initiates support calls with customers. The number you called was not Apple Support (800)MYAPPLE.

Notify your credit card company, notify your bank. Do a factory reset on your Mac. Also call the police and notify them of the fraud.

Unfortunately, you have been scammed. What ever number you called, it was NOT Apple.

If you allowed the criminals to access your computer, consider it compromised, and restore it using a backup that predates the intrusion.

If you paid the criminals with a bank bank or credit card, contact your bank and inform them of the fraud.

Immediately, change all passwords that may have been used on that computer.

Scam artists can use any phone numbers they want to use, and they can change by the hour.

The salient point to bear in mind is this: if you need to contact Apple Support, start with the Contact Support link. That's the only way to assure you are not initiating contact with scam artists, criminals, organizations or individuals fraudulently claiming to represent Apple, or even legitimately helpful entities that are still not Apple.

Apple's fee for single incident, out of warranty consumer support is $29. For that they will spend as many hours, days, or weeks it may take with you to fix whatever problem you may have.
