the apple charger for my mac book pro doesn't charge my battery with a strange twist!

The apple charger for my mac book pro suddenly stopped charging the battery (the light on the plug in doesn't go on) but the charger does allow the computer to work off the electric power without diminishing (or charging) the battery. Is there a solution for this problem?
