Good program to create photo/text books?

Can anyone recommend a program to create photo books that allows for as much text as I want to add or has more capability for me to manipulate the page design? I have a graphic design/art background but was trained more classically and do not have skills on more advanced Mac related design programs. Hoping to find something easy to learn that allows for enough flexibility to create some books about historic homes we have renovated (and include house history information and more text than just captions for photos).
