where do I find the hints for my hard drive password APFS (Encrypted).

I want to sell my old computer but when trying to erase HD it is encrypted. I don't even remember doing it? I've read that there are hints , but not even those appear. Having a backup already and a USB with the OS is it possible to wipe and reinstall everything starting from the usb drive with the OS. My case Mojave. Thanks
