MacBook Pro 15 Slow Boot, Trackpad and Touchbar Issues

I'm currently using a 2018 Macbook Pro i9 32 GB ram on High Sierra 10.3.6

I'm facing 2 issues:

  1. The time it takes to boot my mac is about 3-4 minutes, is this normal? I tried turning off Disk Encryption, but that doesn't seem to work. I closed many of my login items as well to no avail.
  2. Secondly, when I power up the mbp, I can move around the mouse in the login screen to choose my profile. But when I enter my password and login, the touchbar and my mouse cursor suddenly freeze but I can push down on the trackpad (cursor won't move and clicks aren't inputted). I'm still able to use the keyboard though. I've found that the cursor stays stuck and touchbar stays closed until I plug in a dongle and use a wireless mouse, then the trackpad and touchbar work again. I also noticed that after logging in and everything gets stuck, it opens the bluetooth setup assistant. I've tried turning off bluetooth then rebooting, preventing bluetooth setup from opening automatically, etc. but the issue still persists. It happens to be working fine when I run it in safe mode though. Therefore I think maybe it could be some software or something that's causing this. I don't know what to do though. I guess wiping it out would be an option, but I don't really want to do it.

I would greatly appreciate your thoughts and feedback. Thanks

Nope, still the same boot time and trackpad issue. I'd like to add that I obtained the adobe software by doing a patch or something not so legal if that helps. (https://www.reddit.com/r/sjain_guides/comments/9b9wg0/dedicated_support_thread_ask_questions_here/)

Um, is there some way else I could contact you such as email or discord? There appears to be a posting limit.

Feb 19, 2019 5:27 AM in response to Lexiepex

Yup I did that and saved it correctly. Still didnt work

Oh I didn't know that it would have such adverse effects. Actually needed it for Illustrator and Photoshop, but not so much anymore. I'll try uninstalling them and see if it does something. Also, I noticed with the booting is that before, the loading bar would start to slow down at around 50-60% and then fill up the bar consistently, but now it became faster then slows down extremely at the 80-90% mark. Following your advice made it about 10 seconds faster. Making progress :D

"Nope, still the same boot time and trackpad issue. I'd like to add that I obtained the adobe software by doing a patch or something not so legal if that helps. "

If done well without an annoying thing from the password hack, it should run correctly:

but in that case you should NOT correct the Hosts file because if you do the hack can spoil the thing for you!

You better uninstall that software with a real uninstaller (maybe the Adobe uninstaller will work, see in the Applications folder in the Adobe folder.

I know that Adobe CC is a very expensive abo system, I use Lightroom 6.14 perpetual therefore, not being a heavy user. If you do not need the very pro filters and that sort of thing, it may be that Photoshop Elements is an acceptable alternative for you, download the trial version and look at it.

Feb 19, 2019 5:47 AM in response to Ralvex

If you do not correct the hosts file as I proposed, you are rather safe: the hacked software will not reach out to Adobe. If you have completely uninstalled the hacked software you can restart then edit the hosts file and you are safe.

If however you clean up the hosts file without having uninstalled the hacked software, Adobe will receive the information of the hacked software and that will be a very unpleasant and expensive experience for you.

Almost all software communicate with the developer's organisation and collect technical information for making the software "better".... Adobe's expensive software is communicating with Adobe constantly. So I propose that you look about finding another alternative then removing the hacked software completely, and after that edit the hosts file.

Now about your issue:

I propose to remove all entries in SystemPreferences->Users&Groups->LoginItems, with the minus sign underneath (this is not uninstall, just prevents the apps starting at startup of the system);

Then do a restart and do not use any of these software, (the restart will probably better), then go to the website

https://roaringapps.com/apps

and find out if Alfred and the others are compatible with HighSierra.

Uninstall the ones that are not compatible.

(I would uninstall all, since they do not do really much for you).

Good work sofar, pointing at some "weak" points.
