Mouse with iPad 2019

I was wondering If it was possible to connect a mouse to an iPad (iOS 12) without jail breaking the iPad. I am aware this topic has been discussed previously but mixed results came back with some saying it worked with no jailbreak some said it was a con. Thus has led myself to ask the community and if it is possible please give me a method.

No one is suggesting your need isn't valid. It's just no one on this user to user forum can give you what you want or need. It's been years since iPad came out. Through every model, Apple has NOT provided mouse support and there's simply no indication they will. Maybe they will at some point, but none of us work for or have any input to Apple.

You can provide your feature request to Apple via the link below, but debating it on a user to user only forum get's you nothing. Please know I'm sorry for the issues ALS must place on your wife's quality of life. It ***** and I'm sure I can't comprehend the difficulties she must face daily.

Feedback - iPad - Apple

Then I guess we can't help you. iPad as has been discussed, is not now nor has it ever supported a mouse or trackpad. It appears iPad is not the right product for your wife's needs.

And a word of caution. You mentioned JB'ing her iPad. If you do and you brick the device, which really does happen, you will be forfeiting any support you would ever have from Apple.

This isn't a discussion forum. So whether you feel there is a valid reason or not is immaterial. This forum is for people to ask a question of fellow users concerning the use of their Apple Device and for users to provide a response to help them. The question has been asked in this and many other threads how to use a mouse with iPad. The answer is simple. Apple doesn't support mouse or trackpad on any iOS device.

That really should be the end of the thread. Anything else is just opinion. Given your wife's health issues, perhaps the Microsoft Surface Pro would be a better option for her. It's a tablet and a full featured laptop which fully supports mice.

Yes,

You keep stating this and we keep telling you Apple offers NO solution for your use case.

Rbrylawski gave you very good advice.

Since you are using Windows already, maybe instead look at Microsoft Surface Pro tablets, instead.

Microsoft mobile tablet products support all manner of input devices and ard a familiar computing platform for you and your wife.

Maybe, just maybe, they included support for a headset controlled pointer.

Apple offers no such support.

This is the way it is.

Nothing any of us users here can do for you.

Since this is an important issue to you

If you really want to reach out to Apple about this and stop talking to users here in these support communities, you CAN contact Apple directly in Cupertino, California, via the link below, and speak to various Apple customer representatives and let them know of your specific mobile iDevice/iPad use case and make your concerns known to them directly.

The topic here is using a mouse with iPad and you had asked "What will the mouse do for you that your finger can't do?" For her case the size and portability and the fact that we already own one make the iPad the "proper" choice. However, the only viable choice at this point in time is to cough up well over $1,000 for a Macbook that will have a keyboard she can't use that will get in the way when she wants to use it when she's in her wheelchair.

Your use case is, too specific and with anything Apple, may have NO solutions or ideal solutions to use with your wife’s ALS.

The iPad, as with most computer and mobile computer electronics, is designed for the masses.

My opinion, the iPad is NOT the right device/tool your wife needs with her ALS.

It’s that simple.

You may very well find it difficult to find the ideal computing device for her to use.

You may very well have to spend on a more expensive device to accomodate your wife’s ALS.

What model computer does she use, now, with her head mouse, currently?

I don't need anyone to tell me that the iPad is the wrong device. Sadly, I knew that already. I was merely responding to Allan's implication that there isn't a valid use case for using a mouse with an ipad. I provided a valid use case. The point is that just because Apple doesn't choose to support mouse use doesn't make the case invalid. Android tablets and phones support devices like bluetooth head mice so it's technically feasible. Android is designed for the masses too. It does show that even though Apple likes to tout itself as a leader in Assistive Technology, there are some areas where they have room for improvement relative to their competitors. Regarding what computer she uses, it's a Windows 10 computer that supports eye tracking. Even though until recently we were Mac-only household, we had to buy a Windows computer because no eye tracking devices are supported by MacOS. Having no option but to turn to Windows and Android has been a big disappointment to us.

Allan was suggesting that there is no valid need for a mouse. All I wanted was to state that there are, in fact valid cases where a mouse would add value. I offered a valid case and also clearly indicated that i understood that Apple won't address this at this time. I never asked for nor expected anyone on this forum to resolve the issue for me. What is offending me at this point is that people on this forum, rather than simply acknowledging that there are valid use cases for a mouse, insist on jumping on me about how the forum can't give me what THEY think I want. And yes I gave feedback to Apple before I ever saw this thread. I also never said anything about jailbreaking my iPad. That was the OP.

I responded to a question that was in an earlier post "What will the mouse do for you that your finger can't do?". I never said I thought Apple had a solution. That's it. I actually wasn't expecting any response at all.

Coming back with the same unsolicited advice doesn't make it good advice. I never asked for advice. Check the thread. I don't need or want any condescending "advice". You assume I haven't already contacted apple about these issues. If you read the thread you would know that I had already contacted Apple about those issues. I also don't know how you came to the conclusion that I am familiar with Windows. I am actually unfamiliar with Windows 10 and find it to be very awkward.

You stated in one of your posts that your wife is using a Windows computer, that is where I got the idea you were familiar with Windows and Rbrylawski even replied to you about looking at Windows tablets because you stated your wife is using a Windows computer.

Sending feedback thru the feedback pages is “contact”, of a sort, but you will get no response back from Apple through any of the feedback page links, , but I gave you link/way to actually contact and talk to someone at Apple about your concerns

And none of the advice given to you here has been condescending, in the least.

If anything, you have been the most unagreeable in this post.

Not any of us.

As for all of us giving you unsolicited advice...I just do not know what you've expected for responses here.

I do not think anyone who has responded to you knows what you expected for a response.

I am done with this post.

It’s going nowhere.

This thread should have ended long ago but it seems to be important to you to get in the last word. You seem to have trouble understanding that I simply stated a use case that was asked for and you and Allan couldn't simply except that and move on.

All threads that ask about using a mouse with iPad will never end. Trust me. That's a fact.
