iPad keeps asking the Apple Pencil to pair

iPad keeps asking the Apple Pencil to pair with a code, I have the Apple Pencil 2 which has no code in it.

the Apple Pencils we have used to pair by only plug into the charger thingy, now it is asking multiple times for a code the iPad doesn't provide.

Are you trying to use Apple Pencil 2 on a previous generation iPad Pro? If you are, that's why it's asking you to pair the pencil. Apple Pencil 2 (second generation) is NOT for any iPad except the newer 3rd generation iPad Pro 11 and iPad Pro 12.9, both of which have no home button.
