I want to move import. Cannot drag selected photos to aallow this. Icloud is no solution either. How to?. .

I want to move photos and videos off of my imac onto my macbook pro, or at least onto en external drive. My main drive on the macbook pro is too full to allow import. Cannot drag selected photos to a folder on an external hard drive nor onto the macbook pro's second partition. It simply doesn't allow this. Icloud is no solution since I have never used it nor accessed it. Occasionally I get notifications that Icloud drive is full. I ignore these notifications. I am writing this just in case Icloud would be a "solution". I just want to drag and drop my photos off of the ipad. How can I do this? Btw, the title auto copied itself from a page before and cannot be edited. Wish I could.

thank you

iPad, 11

Hey Xenovolcano,

Thanks for reaching back out. While you can't access the individual videos and photos using Finder, you can open the Photos app and select multiple videos by holding down Command and clicking on the multiple items you want to select, then choose the option at the top, File > Export to export the videos or photos that you've selected. You can export them to the Desktop, then drag them where you like, or you can export them to another drive. More info here: Export photos, videos, and slideshows from Photos on Mac - Apple Support

Cheers.

Thank you for your response, but Icloud is not an option. I currently have four different macs and Icloud filled itself up a long time ago without me needing to ask, and if I empty it, it fills up again or backs-up from wherever...anyway, it's frustrating to use, doesn't have enough space anyway (i have 25 gigs of pics and videos), and would require too much time. I could also drag and drop each picture from photos onto my desktop and then drag them onto an external hard drive- but I just feel that it should be easier, and I am hoping for a simple, sane solution.

I need to be able to drag all the videos out of photos from my macbook pro onto en external hard drive, not only to archive my photos and videos, but also to ferr up space on my macbook pro.

Any way to do that?

In a perfect would, I feel that I should be able to just drag them from the finder and not need to be forced to use Photos for what should be a simple task..but I cannot access the photos in finder.. or can I?

Hey Xenovolcano,

I see that you're wanting to move photos and videos from an iMac to your MacBook Pro, or an external hard drive.

iCloud Photo Library might be the easiest option in this case to sync photos across all devices. Here's how to set up iCloud Photo Library: Cloud: Set up iCloud on your iOS devices or your Mac or Windows computer You mentioned that your iCloud storage is low, but this might help make more space available for syncing the photos from your devices: Manage your iCloud storage - Apple Support

You can always download copies of photos and other information that is in iCloud for storage options like the external hard drive you mentioned: Archive or make copies of the information you store in iCloud - Apple Support

You mentioned that the external hard drive is full on your MacBook Pro so you can't import photos, but if you're unable to sync photos using iCloud then importing the photos would be the only other option to get the pictures to the MacBook Pro. You could also copy the Photos Library from the iMac to an external hard drive.

Here's how to make a copy of the Photos Library: Move your Photos library to save space on your Mac - Apple Support

And here's a link with the steps to import photos from the iPad: Transfer photos and videos from your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch - Apple Support

I hope you're able to find the best direction for your situation with these resources.

Take care.
