Easiest way to delete pictures on iCloud and transfer other photos to PC

Please help me understand how I can delete photos in iCloud from my PC (I can see the photos in Explorer on iCloud, but they won't delete.)

Also, what is the easiest way to transfer photos to my PC (so that I can put them on a thumb drive.) I really don't want to have to transfer all photos from iCloud to my PC, just selected ones.) When I open two Explorers, one views the photos on iCloud, the other is open to my thumb drive...When I drag and drop it doesn't work; when I copy it won't provide "paste" in the thumb drive Explorer.

I don't understand why this is so difficult. Any help would be appreciated.

Hi iCloudPhotosQuestions,

Thank you for using the Apple Support Communities! We understand

This is a great article to reference, when you want to make a copy of some of your iCloud data: Archive or make copies of the information you store in iCloud - Apple Support. You'll be able to navigate to the Photos and videos section of that article, to find steps on how to download your content from iCloud to your PC via iCloud for Windows: Set up and use iCloud Photos on your Windows PC - Apple Support.

Alternatively, you could also use the iCloud website directly, to download photos and videos to your thumb drive selectively, then delete them afterwards: "On your Mac or PC, just go to iCloud and click Photos. Then select the photos and videos you want to download and click Download." You can then move them from your downloads to your thumb drive.

Download iCloud photos and videos - Apple Support, "Remember, when you delete a photo from iCloud Photos, it also deletes from iCloud and any other device where you're signed in with the same Apple ID — even if you turned on Download and Keep Originals or Download Originals to this Mac. If you choose to download your originals, this also impacts your device storage. Learn more about how to manage your device storage. You can also learn how to AirDrop your photos and videos to another device."

Best regards.
