Importing Canon XH A1 footage into FCP

I used to be able to import footage from my Canon XH A1 camcorder onto my iMac and my MacBook Pro, but now that I have a new iMac and new MacBook Pro, I can't get FCP to see my XH A1. It doesn't show up under 'Camera Devices' in FCP. Any ideas why? PS. when I attach my XH A1 to a separate monitor and play a mini-dv tape, it does show up on the monitor. So that tells me that my camera and my cable are working. I'm connecting it through an elgato capture device (which works fine when I use it to capture VHS tapes onto my iMac or MacBook Pro).
