why do accent marks & emoji keyboard short cuts not work in Google Docs?

I am able to use the keyboard shortcut of Control + Command + Space Bar and the emoji box appears in Google Docs, at the bottom left corner of my screen. I make a selection, but it doesn't appear in the documents. Also, it works in Google Sheets which made me eliminate the possibility that it's a Google 'block'.

This is the same for any accent marks. When i hold down the 'e' key (for example), the box that appears with the options for different types of 'e's appears in the bottom left corner of the screen, I make a selection and nothing happens.

Any thoughts as to why it's just Google Docs, or is there a setting I need to change or something? 🤷🏻‍♀️ <-- see worked like a charm.
